British chocolatier Marc Demarquette is noted for his elegant way with chocolate. This Easter sees Marc bringing out a  boxed collection of 12 caramel-filled chocolate Easter eggs.

The eggs arrive securely and neatly packaged in a small, smart, matt black cardboard box with its gleaming gold Demarquette logo and discreet legend ‘Demarquette fine chocolates’ –  distinctly sophisticated packaging, which hints at grown-up pleasures to come. Opening the box and unwrapping the neatly-folded black paper with a delicious sense of anticipation, one finds 12 dainty, quail-sized, chocolate eggs nestled cosily inside. The eggs come in three different colours – bright yellow, pale blue and green, each patterned with zingy dark brown and orange stripes, making them very appealing visually.

The colours reflect the three flavours:  the subtle blue being Sea Salted caramel, jaunty yellow signalling Banoffee and bright green for Key lime.  Biting into the eggs, the crisp-textured, thin chocolate shells break with a satisfying crunch. The sea salt caramel, paired with 71.1% dark chocolate, is subtly salted, with the filling complementing, rather than overpowering, the chocolate. The banoffee egg has a lovely banana flavour, which again manages to be distinct but without being overwhelming, with nutty notes also detected. Despite being encased in milk chocolate, the banoffee egg admirably avoids being oversweet. The most striking of the three caramel fillings is the Key Lime one – which delivers a gloriously zingy lime hit, contrasting nicely with the milk chocolate egg shell casing. The soft, rich texture of the caramel makes eating these feel happily indulgent. These tiny eggs deliver flavour with panache and are dangerously more-ish. Do put them on your Easter wish list!
